Reddit GIF Downloader
Reddit GIFs in full quality, with sound if they have it.
Only save content you own or have permission to use.
TapDL is a free Reddit GIF downloader. Paste the link to a Reddit post above to save its GIF in full quality. Reddit turns most uploaded GIFs into short videos, so you get the original file Reddit stores: an animated GIF when there is one, or a looping MP4 (with sound if it has any).
How to download GIFs from Reddit
- Copy the post link. Tap Share → Copy link on the post.
- Paste it here. Tap Paste above; the box turns Reddit orange.
- Save it. Tap Download, then Save to phone.
GIF or MP4?
| Reddit post | What you get |
|---|---|
| GIF uploaded as an image (i.redd.it) | The original animated GIF |
| GIF converted to video by Reddit | Looping MP4, much smaller than a GIF |
| Short clip with sound | MP4 with the sound joined in |
| Gallery post with several GIFs | Each one separately, with Download all |
Why some Reddit GIFs are MP4s
To save bandwidth, Reddit converts many GIFs into MP4 videos. They look the same and loop in Photos, WhatsApp and Discord, but they’re often ten times smaller. If you need a real .gif file, any free MP4-to-GIF converter can turn it back.
Save Reddit GIFs on iPhone, Android and PC
iPhone: Safari → Save to phone → Save Image for GIFs, or Save Video for MP4s. Android: the file goes to Downloads (and Gallery for videos and images). Computer: click Download and the file is saved straight to your Downloads folder.
Reddit links that work
Post links (reddit.com/r/…/comments/…), share links (reddit.com/r/…/s/…), redd.it short links and direct i.redd.it and v.redd.it addresses all work.
Reddit GIF not downloading?
- The subreddit is private or quarantined.
- The GIF is hosted on another site (like Giphy or Imgur) and only linked from Reddit.
- The post was removed.
