Twitter (X) GIF Downloader
GIFs from X, saved as looping MP4s.
Only save content you own or have permission to use.
TapDL is a free Twitter (X) GIF downloader. X (formerly Twitter) stores every GIF as a short video, so there’s no Save button. Paste the post link above and TapDL saves the GIF as a looping MP4 in the best quality, from x.com or twitter.com links, with no login.
How to download GIFs from Twitter (X)
- Copy the post link. Tap Share under the post and choose Copy link.
- Paste it here. Tap Paste above.
- Save it. Tap Download, then Save to phone.
Why Twitter GIFs save as MP4
When you post a GIF on X, it’s converted into a small MP4 video without sound. That’s what X shows in the feed, and it’s the file TapDL saves. MP4 GIFs are smaller and sharper than real GIF files, and they loop in Photos, WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram and Discord.
What you can save from X
| Post contains | Result |
|---|---|
| A GIF | Looping MP4 in full quality |
| A video | MP4 in HD with sound: see the Twitter video downloader |
| Several GIFs or videos | Each one separately, with Download all |
| Photos | Full-size images |
Save Twitter GIFs on iPhone, Android and PC
iPhone: Safari → Save to phone → Save Video (it appears in Photos and loops like a GIF). Android: the file goes to Downloads (and Gallery for videos and images). Computer: click Download and the file is saved straight to your Downloads folder.
Turn the MP4 back into a GIF
Need an actual .gif file, for example for a website or an app that only accepts GIFs? Free converters can turn the MP4 into a GIF on your computer or phone. Keep the MP4 too: it looks better at a fraction of the size.
